Research Group on Odorants, Olfaction and Odor with the CNRS

Annual conference of the olfaction research group 

Created in 2015, the O3 Research Group – Odorant, Odeur, Olfaction – or GDR O3, aims to develop transdisciplinary projects around odors. The research teams take a broad approach to the subject, ranging from the study of odor itself to its physiological perception and its many applications. The GDR O3 aims to create a network of collaborations and exchanges for researchers working on odors, a field with multiple facets and applications. The aim is to federate and lead the scientific community around odors and odorants. 

To encourage encounters between researchers and foster innovation, the GDR O3 organizes an annual two-day conference where experienced researchers and young researchers present their work and forge links. In October 2024, these meetings will take place in Nice, and thanks to the support of the Per Fumum Endowment Fund, access for students will be covered so that they too can benefit from the scientific conferences and multidisciplinary interactions (chemists, biologists, researchers in the human sciences, psychologists, doctors, therapists, industrialists, etc.) between the worlds of research and industry.

The aim is to identify emerging themes and encourage synergies to ensure that innovation is ever more refined and tailored to the world of smell and olfaction. We are delighted to be a sponsor of this project.

Nathalie MANDAIRON

Nathalie Mandairon holds a PhD in Neuroscience and is dedicated to studying the neural bases of odor perception. She heads a team at the Lyon Neuroscience Research Centre and, with the help of Xavier Fernandez (Professor at Côte d'Azur University), coordinates the Odorant, Odeur, Olfaction Research Group. This initiative, set up by the CNRS in 2015, brings together laboratories from all over France. Nathalie Mandairon's aim is to promote multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in the fields of odor perception, odorous compounds, aromas and perfumes.
