Raymond Chaillan was born in Nice in 1935. He spent his childhood in Barrême, in the Alpes de Haute-Provence, surrounded by fields of lavender and sage, on the lands of his grandfather, who worked with flowers. After graduating as an engineer from the École Nationale Supérieure des Industries Agricoles et Alimentaires, he was hired by Chiris in Grasse. Over six years, he learned the craft of becoming a perfumer-creator. He refined his training alongside perfumer Jacques Jantzen and, in 1969, joined Roure in Paris under the guidance of Louis Amic.
After ten successful years, during which he created renowned fragrances such as Signoricci 2 by Nina Ricci (1975), Anaïs Anaïs by Cacharel (1978), and Opium by Yves Saint Laurent (1979), he moved to Firmenich. He was later recruited by Dragoco, then Sozio, and ended his career at Argeville.
Passionate and deeply committed to his craft, Raymond Chaillan served as President of the Société Française des Parfumeurs from 1995 to 1997 and, along with a few colleagues, played a key role in founding the Société Internationale des Parfumeurs-Créateurs.
