Happy back-to-school!

New projects for new stories to tell…

Between scientific research, educational & social initiatives and the promotion of France’s olfactory heritage, the Per Fumum Endowment Fund is more committed than ever!

We invite you to discover the new projects supported in the Millésime 2024!

Scientific research

Research Group on Odorants – Odors, Olfaction, Odorant with the CNRS

The O3 Research Group, created in 2015, develops transdisciplinary projects on odors. It brings together the scientific community and organizes annual meetings to promote exchanges between researchers, industrialists and associations. This year, the fund will accompany the 2024 edition, which takes place in Nice in October.

Olfactory stimulation of patients in coma with the Institut Pasteur

Professor Lledo and physicist Jean-Baptiste Masson are studying a new approach that probes the state of consciousness of neurolesized patients through smell. This method uses olfactory stimulation coupled with generative models of interpretation of electroencephalography measurements, to predict the future of patients and guide medical practitioners in their decision-making.

Olfactory implant for non-restored anosmics with the Université Paris Cité

Claire Martin, neuroscientist, tries to solve the persistent anosmia by developing an olfactory implant. By combining cutting-edge technology with a deep understanding of olfactory neuroscience, the study lays the foundation for a solution to this problem, that affects millions of people around the world.

Understanding of olfactory pleasure – CLIO 3

The fund is renewing its support for the third part of the study on understanding olfactory pleasure, conducted by Moustafa Bensafi, Denis Pieron and Marylou Mantel. This time, the study will look at social factors involved in hedonic smell perception and their interaction with previously highlighted variables.

Educational and social actions

Book on olfactory education

The association Nez en Herbe, specialized in popularizing scientific discoveries around smell to the general public, wishes to integrate olfactory education into school curricula and preschool activities, emphasizing the importance of smell in children’s cognitive and emotional development. The idea of the book is to include educational and creative activities for various audiences, in order to increase understanding and enhance the importance of smell.

Per Fumum - Symposium in Versailles on the Perfumer role

Publication of the proceedings of the 2021 symposium on the perfumer’s figure

Alice Camus Mignen and Érika Wicky will soon publish a book from the symposium on the figure of the perfumer, already supported by the Per Fumum Endowment Fund in 2021. The book will bring together twelve works analyzing the different aspects of the perfumer’s profession, in order to grasp the evolution of this figure since its creation during the Renaissance.

On this occasion, we heard the words of Alice Camus Mignen who reveals the behind-the-scenes of this ambitious project. “The main objective is to perpetuate everything that was said during the conference. It was a two-day event and obviously, all those who could not access it cannot, unfortunately, have access to all the interventions if there is no edition. So sustainability is the main objective. It’s also about improving content. The book will offer an enhanced version of the interventions, incorporating the exchanges that took place during the symposium as well as subsequent discussions between the authors, Erika and myself.”
